 Diana Ginn.
A New Zealand portrait painter, fine art restorer and Icon painter.
I have spent many years enjoying portraying a face as I see it, through the medium of oil paint.
A period of adventure and study in Italy and Greece brought me in touch with the original painting techniques of some of the great masters and I developed a love for the method of egg tempera painting, which was used to paint the early and current religious Greek and Russian icons. It is a mixture of powder pigments ground into egg yolk that hardens to a rich transluscent finish.
I hope you get a smile from the images I have here, which were painted to give some light enjoyment to the viewer, and bring a life to a child. I enjoyed painting the icons . My images generally portray mother and child and my 'dicons' are based on the original child with the holy scroll in his hand.
The portraits are of subjects commissioned over the years or faces I have liked and seen an aspect of. The richness of oil paint brings a life to an otherwise flat 2 dimensional canvas.
Enjoy my works.
